Lesson Plans
First, follow these lesson plans or use the ideas to supplement your curriculum. There are 3 weeks or 15 lesson plan ideas to cover Geometry 2D shapes.
Shape Poster
In addition, use this poster to teach learners different two-dimensional shapes during your lessons.
Vocabulary Cards
Also, post these cards on the math wall during the unit to refer to as new words are introduced. Shape and geometric vocabulary are available to introduce to learners.
Lesson Plans
Shape Poems
To start, use these poems to introduce the shapes to your learners. The beginning of the poem shares attributes that can be elaborated in whole group. In addition, the ending of the poem provides real life examples of the shapes in our world.
Storytelling
During each week of instruction, use the storytelling lesson provided. To start the lesson, introduce your learners to a real-life situation that involves shapes. After that, use the materials listed in the description and have your learners help you solve the problem.
Shape Lessons
Each shape lesson comes with a read-aloud text to share with your learners. Next, introduce your learners to the shape poem. After that, have learners make the shape using playdough, WikkiStix or small manipulatives. Futhermore, at the end of the lesson, discuss the characteristics of each shape.
Interactive Notebook
During this unit, have learners complete an interactive notebook page after they are introduced to a new shape. Working together, complete the information and glue into the interactive math notebook.
Shape Exploration
Finally, end each week by exploring the shapes with groups or partners. After that, follow the directions and use the resources provided in this unit for these review activities.
Shape Snack
During this time of the lesson, share a snack each week together while reviewing the attributes of each shapes introduced.
