A fun, interactive way to learn about penguins is this penguin science lapbook!
Have your learners color and cut the cover page. Fold a large piece of construction paper or file folder where the ends go to the center. Glue the cover page on the top and cut down the middle after the glue dries.
Have your learners color and cut the penguin title. Glue the title on the top of the inside of the lapbook.
Life Cycle of a Penguin
Have your learners color and cut the life cycle penguin, cycle pictures (on this page) and number circles the center of the lapbook.
Anatomy of a Penguin
Have your learners color and glue the penguin and title on the left ‘wing’ of the lapbook. Have your learners glue the words on the correct part of the penguin.
Penguins can, have, are
Have your learners complete this chart throughout the unit of study. Glue on the top left ‘wing’ of the lapbook.
After reading a penguin book or video, have your learners write or draw and label their habitat (where they live), predators (animals that eat penguins) and prey (animals that penguins eat) and glue on the right ‘wing’ of the lapbook.
Types of Penguins
Have your learners color and place the penguin species in the types of penguins pocket. Fold in the tabs and glue the pocket onto the right ‘wing’ of the lapbook.
After reading a penguin book or video, have your learners write or draw and label four different ways penguins adapt to their environment. (i.e. sliding on their bellies to travel, flippers to swim and catch food, protecting egg on their feet, blubber and feathers to stay warm, etc.)
